Communities: Citizen Engagement through Arts Programming & City-wide Inclusive Recreation Strategy

Speaker and Workshop Facilitator

Educators are busy. When they attend a conference, it needs to be worth their while and make an impact on how they teach right away. Equally, students deserve a speaker that influences positive action instead of rehearsed clichés. At Nicole Harris Learning Solutions, we take the strategic vision for your conference, assembly, or student organization to create a result we like to call, “inspirational skill-building.” In our workshops, we aren’t interested in creating a PowerPoint full of information that can be found on Google, we want participants to DO and APPLY! Whether you need a keynote for a faculty PD conference, a college and career success presentation for K-12 students, your university student organization, or a school assembly, we will design a custom learning experience for your needs.

The Diaspora Difference Program

I am a national African Diaspora Educator, reaching teachers in 12 states and counting. The word diaspora refers to “the worldwide collection of communities descended from Africa who are dispersed all over the world.” I partner with schools to help teachers infuse black history into their curriculum from a global perspective. The Diaspora Difference Program includes curriculum design, program consultation, classroom guest speaking, and professional development.

Community Engagement Consultant

One of the richest ways we learn outside of our jobs and schools is right in our own communities! City leaders and community organizations put on events all year but may not know where to start when it comes to engaging citizens and targeting the right audiences. With over 10 years of experience in municipal engagement strategy, I work with libraries, local governments, non-profits, theaters, human services, interest groups, local artists, and various organizations to boost attendance at city events and increase participation in the arts. I train local leaders to design programming that citizens feel they can relate to and learn from. Clients who work with me have seen a 50% increase in the use of their services and participation in city events resulting in higher attendance rates and long-term engagement. I specialize in “inclusive recreation” to ensure all citizens in your city feel welcome to learn from their lived environments by enjoying and exploring where they live together with their neighbors.

  • “Nicole is a trusted facilitator. She is our annual presenter for the Center of African Studies’ Summer Institute on Africa. She succeeds mostly at providing practical strategies that can be implemented immediately after her talk. Through her partnership, educators all over the U.S. now infuse an African Diaspora curriculum in their classrooms.”

Dr. Agnes Leslie, Senior Lecturer and Outreach Director
  • “Nicole brought a dynamism to both the Frank and Story: GNV conferences. At the nationally-recognized Frank Gathering, she facilitated in a way that had people out of their seats, meeting the panelists, and physically mapping out solutions. I’ve worked with her repeatedly because she always delivers and makes a lasting impact on those who attend.”

Brandon Telg, Co-Founder of Self Narrate and Frank Leader
  • “Nicole is a fabulous woman who did an amazing job organizing and facilitating a globally-attended six week professional development program for other instructional designers, using my book as a resource. It was impressive to see her mobilize an international training audience.”

  • “Usually, it’s hard to pay attention in these sessions, but I could not help but pay attention, Nicole solved a
